Hi y’all,
Here’s an update on my latest paintings of the ocean. I’m very passionate about the ocean from growing up in New England, where some of my fondest memories are of spending time at Narragansett Beach in Rhode Island or walking the clay bluffs of Block Island.
I’m only beginning to learn how to paint waves, clouds, and rocks, but here are my most recent attempts. What do you see in the paintings? Let me know which one you like more in the poll at the end of this post!
Painting 1: Gower Coast, United Kingdom
Notes:
This color palette included ultramarine blue for the ocean, more ultramarine blue, aureolin (I used lemon yellow with some viridian green), cadmium red, and permanent rose for the sky, and burnt umber and burnt sienna for the rocks.
Other equipment used: paper towel, razor blade
My favorite part of this painting is the horizon where the sky meets the ocean

Painting 2: Reflections in the Sand
Notes:
The most fun part of this painting was the rocks on the left
Similar color palette as above, using burnt sienna, cadmium scarlet, ultramarine blue on the rocks, with mixes of aureolin, lemon yellow, permanent rose, and ultramarine blue in the sky.
